Flash Flood Warning

Statement as of 12:42 PM EDT on June 27, 2016

Expires 6:00 PM EDT on June 27, 2016

... The Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 600 PM EDT for
Summers and Greenbrier counties...

At 1235 PM EDT... Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across portions of the warned area. Up to one inch of
rain has already fallen in northwestern Greenbrier County... most
notably between Richwood... Rainelle... and Bingham. Up to three
quarters of an inch has fallen in northwestern Summers County just
to the southwest of Sandstone.

Although rain had ended in some areas... an additional developing
line of storms with very heavy rain was developing along a cool
front near Charleston West Virginia. This area of rain will move
southeast back into Greenbrier and Summers County by mid afternoon.
Runoff from this second round of rain will likely result in flash

Excessive rainfall over the warned area will cause mud slides near
steep terrain. The mud slide can consist of rock... mud... vegetation
and other loose materials.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
White Sulphur Springs...
and Ronceverte.

This includes the West Virginia state Fairgrounds.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Move to higher ground now. Act quickly to protect your life.

Do not enter or cross flowing water or water of unknown depth.

Turn around... dont drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

When it is safe to do so... please send your reports of flooding...
including mudslides or Road closures... to the National Weather
Service by calling toll free at 1... 8 6 6... 2 1 5... 4 3 2 4. Reports

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through this evening...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of Virginia and southeast West Virginia... including
the following areas... in Virginia... Alleghany VA... Bath...
Botetourt... Craig and Rockbridge. In southeast West Virginia...
   eastern Greenbrier... Monroe... Summers and western Greenbrier.

* Through this evening

* slow moving showers and thunderstorms with heavy rain will
arrive ahead of a cold front this afternoon and evening. This
heavy rain combined with very wet conditions due to flooding
from last week could result in additional flash flooding.

* Rapid rises along creeks and streams along with poor drainage
due to debris could lead to more flooding this afternoon and

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
