Special Statement

Expires 6:00 PM EST on December 02, 2016

... Colder weather is in store for western Washington early next
week...
... A threat of isolated landslides continues...

A cold front will sweep across western Washington Sunday morning
and usher in a colder air mass. The snow level is forecast to
fall to near 500 feet at most places Sunday afternoon. However,
the air mass will undergo some drying. Therefore, most of the
showers will be confined to the Cascades and within a convergence
zone. This means that elevations above the 500 foot level within
the convergence zone could receive a inch or two of wet snow.

Another low pressure pressure system may bring the possibility of
widespread lowland snow late Sunday night into Monday morning,
with accumulating snowfall possible. This could have an adverse
impact on the Monday morning commute.

Meanwhile, soils remain saturated from heavy rainfall that fell
during the past several weeks. This will maintain the risk of
isolated landslides.

Public Information Statement

Statement as of 9:20 AM PST on December 02, 2016

... Adjustment to be made to the flood level for the new Flood
Warning point at White River at r street gage...

The flood flow level for the White River at r St. Gage will be
adjusted from 6,000 cubic feet per second (cfs)to 5,500 cfs starting
Monday morning, December 5, 2016. Additional evaluations have
indicated that flood impacts could be expected with flows starting
at the 5,500 cfs level. Due to the changing nature of the stream
channel of the lower White River, there is a fair amount of
uncertainty regarding at what river level the flooding will begin.
This evolving nature of the river will likely mean continued
adjustments to the flood levels as we see what the actual flood
impacts are under high water conditions in the coming months and
years.

Flood warnings for the White River r St. Gage will address flooding
from Auburn down to the confluence with the Puyallup river, including
the cities of Auburn, Pacific, and Sumner. This area has seen an
increasing flood threat over the last several years due to changes
in the stream bed. Here are the flood levels for the three flood
categories that will be in effect as of December 5, 2016:

Minor flood flow/Flood Warning level... ..5,500 cfs
moderate flood flow... ... ... ... ... ... ... .8,000 cfs
major flood flow... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... 10,000 cfs
