Public Information Statement

Statement as of 3:23 PM PDT on July 26, 2016


After a dry April and may, June saw near to above normal
precipitation for all of the western half of Washington state. Most
of the eastern half of the state saw below normal precipitation for
the month, except for the Okanogan region which saw above normal
rainfall in June. As for the water year, all of Washington state
remains near to above normal.

In western Washington, the monthly percentage of normal for
precipitation ranged from 92 percent in the southwest interior to
112 percent in the Olympics and western slopes of the Cascades. The
greatest amount of precipitation at the climate stations for the
mountains, coast and interior lowlands was 7.79 inches at Cedar Lake
on the western slopes of the Cascades, 4.30 at Clearwater, and 4.87
inches at Sedro Woolley in the northwest interior.

For eastern Washington, the percentage of normal for precipitation
ranged from 61 percent in the northeast region to 121 percent in the
Okanogan region. The greatest amount of precipitation at climate
stations for the mountains and lowlands was 1.04 inches at Mount
Adams Ranger station on the eastern slopes of the Cascades, and 2.09
inches at Northport in the northeast region.

The outlook for July and beyond for Washington state, for the next
two weeks the outlook is for below normal precipitation. The
monthly outlook for July calls for equal chances of above, below or
near normal precipitation for the western half of the state, with
below normal precipitation for the eastern half. The three month
outlook for July through September calls for below normal
precipitation for all of Washington state.

for regions of Washington. The current water year began 1 October
2015 and ends 30 September 2016.
