Areal Flood Advisory

Statement as of 3:25 PM CDT on July 25, 2014

Expires 6:00 PM EDT on July 25, 2014

The National Weather Service in Corpus Christi has issued an

* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
western Nueces County in south central Texas...
this includes the cities of... Robstown... Driscoll...

* until 500 PM CDT

* at 324 PM CDT National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
nearly stationary thunderstorms over the advised area. Rainfall
amounts of one to three inches of rain are expected with these
thunderstorms.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause elevated levels on
small creeks and streams... and ponding of water in urban areas...
highways... streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage
areas and low lying spots.

with only a slow drift to the west around 5 mph.

with any of the storms that develop this afternoon. In
addition... locally heavy rainfall may lead to isolated flooding of
low lying areas.

322 am CDT Fri Jul 25 2014

... Heat indices between 105 and 109 degrees are expected today...

The combination of warm temperatures and high dewpoints will
produce heat indices between 105 and 109 degrees today. An area or
two could have heat indices around 110 degrees for an hour.
Residents with outdoor activities planned are urged to drink
plenty of water... wear light weight and light colored
clothing... and take frequent breaks from the heat. Young children
and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any
circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather
when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of
minutes.

Heat indices over these areas could experience even higher heat
indices on Saturday... possibly reaching or exceeding 110 degrees
for a few hours. A heat advisory may be needed over portions of
south Texas on Saturday.
