Areal Flood Warning

Statement as of 3:17 PM EDT on April 23, 2017

Expires 6:45 PM EDT on April 23, 2017

... A Flood Warning remains in effect until 645 PM EDT for Knox...
Anderson... Blount... Jefferson... Cocke... Grainger... Sevier and Hamblen
counties...

At 316 PM EDT, emergency management reported flooding in many
locations across the warning area. Numerous secondary roads have
been closed due to flooding and small creeks and streams are out of
their banks. Between 2 to 4 inches of rain has fallen over the last
36 hours, with localized amounts up to 5 inches. An additional 1 to
2 inches is possible over the next 3 hours.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Knoxville, Oak Ridge, Morristown, Maryville, Sevierville, Clinton,
Alcoa, Jefferson City, Newport, Gatlinburg, Dandridge, Rutledge,
Farragut, Pigeon Forge, Oliver Springs, Bean Station, Louisville,
White Pine, Plainview and New Market.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate Route.
