Areal Flood Watch

... Flood Watch remains in effect through this evening...

The Flood Watch continues for

* a portion of central New York... including the following
counties... Jefferson... Lewis and Oswego.

* Through this evening.

* Around an inch of rain fell with the passage of a cold front on
Saturday. Meanwhile warm temperatures over several days resulted
in rapid snowmelt across the Tug Hill plateau and western
Adirondacks. Excessive runoff from snowmelt and rain will
continue to result in high water levels in streams and rivers.


* Flooding is expected for portions of the watch area. Please see
specific river flood warnings for the Black River and Moose
River. Other rivers may approach flood stage today, including
the Beaver River and other rivers which drain the Tug Hill
plateau and western Adirondacks.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be
alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to
flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding
develop. Stay tuned to weather radio or other radio and TV
stations for further details or updates.

... A band of lake effect snow will affect northern Cayuga and Oswego
counties...

At 920 am EST, a band of lake effect snow producing snow fall rates
of 1 to 2 inches per hour will continue to remain nearly stationary
this morning across northern Cayuga and Oswego counties. If
traveling across this area expect rapidily changing weather
conditions and reduced visibilities.

Locations impacted include...
Oswego, Fulton, Fair Haven Beach State Park, Central Square, Cato,
Mexico Point State Park, Nine Mile point, Battle Island State Park,
Brewerton and chimney Bluffs State Park.

This includes Interstate 81 between exits 32 and 34.

Conditions can deteriorate rapidly in winter weather situations. Be
prepared for snow or ice covered roads. Slow down and allow extra
time when traveling.
