Statement as of 11:08 PM MDT on August 01, 2014

Expires 8:00 AM EDT on August 02, 2014

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued an

* Arroyo and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
southeastern Sandoval County in north central New Mexico

* until 115 am MDT

* at 1108 PM MDT National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
heavy rain was falling along Interstate 25 near San Felipe
Pueblo... between mile markers 245 and 255.

* Strong flows and high water levels are expected in arroyos... small
streams and over low water crossings. Rapid runoff can also be
expected immediately over and downstream from wildfire burn scars.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Both localized and distant heavy rainfall will create dangerous flows
in arroyos and over low water crossings. Do not attempt to drive
through these waters. Water in arroyos may travel many miles and take
hours to reach your location from upstream rain areas.

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until 6 am MDT Saturday...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* a portion of north and central New Mexico... including the
following areas... Albuquerque Metro area... Central Highlands...
east slopes Sangre de Cristo Mountains... eastern Lincoln County...
Estancia valley... far northeast Highlands... Guadalupe County...
Jemez Mountains... lower Chama River Valley... lower Rio Grande
Valley... northeast Highlands... northern Sangre de Cristo
Mountains above 9500 feet/Red River... northwest Highlands...
Raton ridge/Johnson Mesa... San Francisco River Valley... San Juan
Mountains... Sandia/Manzano Mountains... Santa Fe Metro area...
south Central Highlands... south central mountains... southern
Sangre de Cristo Mountains above 9500 feet... southwest Chaves
County... Southwest Mountains... upper Rio Grande Valley... upper
Tularosa Valley... west Central Highlands... west central mountains
and west slopes Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

* Until 6 am MDT Saturday

* abundant moisture is in place over much of northern and central
New Mexico... and a weak disturbance aloft will be entering
northern parts of the state through this evening and overnight.
In addition... storms are expected to move very slowly through
early morning... and this scenario will lead to a heightened
risk for flash flooding. With abundant moisture in place some of
the stronger storms will likely produce torrential downpours
with rain at rates near 1 inch in just a half hour.

* Locations where the ground is already saturated from recent
rainfall will be favored for flash flooding. Other vulnerable
locations will include steep terrain... urban areas and burn
scars. Keep a watchful eye on arroyos and small streams... and
stay out of flooded low water crossings. Monitor the latest
forecasts closely and be prepared to take immediate action if a
warning or advisory is issued.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to
flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
Monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash
flood warnings be issued.
