Special Statement

Statement as of 4:20 AM MDT on October 02, 2014

Expires 7:00 AM EDT on October 02, 2014

... Near to subfreezing low temperatures over portions of north and
west central New Mexico early Friday...

A dry and chilly air mass will invade New Mexico today... setting the
stage for the most widespread occurrence of near to subfreezing
temperatures so far this season late tonight and early Friday. The
area impacted... with some exceptions due to terrain variations and in
larger urban areas... will include locales generally north of a line
from near Clayton to Vaughn... Los Lunas and Fence Lake. Generally...
in the southern portions of this area low temperatures early Friday
will be in the 30s to lower 40s with only the lowest dips and valleys
approaching or briefly reaching the freezing mark. This would include
some of the more agriculturally sensitive locales as the far
northeast plains... Harding County... eastern San Miguel County...
Guadalupe County... Central Highlands... Estancia valley... Santa Fe and
valley areas of the Albuquerque Metro as well as the northwest
plateau and lower Chama River Valley. Elsewhere... many spots will
reach the 20s to mid 30s for a few hours.

Minimums Friday night could be close to those expected tonight... so a
repeat of near or subfreezing temperatures is possible before
a warming trend begins Saturday.

Those with sensitive plants or having other freeze sensitive concerns
across northern and west central New Mexico should prepare for the
chilly temperatures tonight and possibly Friday night.

... Near to subfreezing low temperatures over portions of north and
west central New Mexico early Friday...

A fairly chilly air mass will invade New Mexico late tonight into
Thursday... setting the stage for the largest expanse of near to
subfreezing temperatures so far this season late Thursday night and
early Friday. The area impacted... with some exceptions due to
terrain variations and in larger urban areas... will include locales
generally north of a line from near Clayton to Vaughn... Los Lunas and
Fence Lake. Generally... in the southern portions of this area low
temperatures early Friday will be in the 30s to low 40s with only
the lowest dips and valleys approaching or briefly reaching the
freezing mark. This would include some of the more agriculturally
sensitive locales as the far northeast plains... Harding County...
eastern San Miguel County... Guadalupe County... Central Highlands...
Estancia valley... Santa Fe and Albuquerque Metro areas and... farther
north... the northwest plateau and lower Chama River Valley. Elsewhere
north of the aforementioned line many spots will reach the 20s to mid
30s for a few hours.

In addition to these cold temperatures... there may be a light
coating of snow later tonight and early Thursday across the higher
terrain of the tusas and Sangre de Cristo Mountains and perhaps even
a dusting across areas near and along the Raton ridge. At this time
it looks like at most just an inch or two of snow across the higher
peaks of the northern mountains.

Those with sensitive plants or having other freeze sensitive concerns
within the aforementioned areas should prepare for the chilly
temperatures Thursday night and early Friday.
