... The Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 315 PM CDT for
Leake... Rankin and northwestern Scott counties...

At 140 PM CDT, the Mississippi Department of Transportation reported
flash flooding along Highway 49 between Florence and Star. Up to two
to three inches of rain have already fallen. Flash flooding is
already occurring.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Jackson, Pearl, Brandon, Flowood, Richland, Carthage, Morton, Star,
Edinburg, Harperville, Florence, Pelahatchie, Leesburg, Goshen
Springs, Ludlow, Renfroe, Piney Woods, Forkville, Pisgah and branch.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of southeast Arkansas, northeast Louisiana and
Mississippi, including the following areas in southeast
Arkansas, Ashley and Chicot. In northeast Louisiana,
Catahoula, Concordia, East Carroll, Franklin la, Madison la,
Morehouse, Richland, Tensas and West Carroll. In Mississippi,
Adams, Attala, Bolivar, Carroll, Choctaw, Claiborne, Clarke,
Clay, Copiah, Covington, Forrest, Franklin MS, Grenada, Hinds,
Holmes, Humphreys, Issaquena, Jasper, Jefferson, Jefferson
Davis, Jones, Kemper, Lamar, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Leake,
Leflore, Lincoln, Lowndes, Madison MS, Marion, Montgomery,
Neshoba, Newton, Noxubee, Oktibbeha, Rankin, Scott, Sharkey,
Simpson, Smith, Sunflower, Warren, Washington, Webster,
Winston and Yazoo.

* Until 7 PM CDT this evening

* rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches in a short period of time
may lead to flash flooding, especially in areas where the
ground has been saturated by heavy rain over the past few
days.

* The flooding of roads, low lying areas, and areas with poor
drainage will be possible. If encountering flooded roadways,
remember to turn around, don't drown.

... A cluster of strong thunderstorms will affect northern
Jasper... southern Newton... northern Smith and southeastern Scott
counties through 230 PM CDT...

At 134 PM CDT, meteorologists were tracking strong thunderstorms
along a line extending from 6 miles east of Forest to near White Oak.
Movement was east at 40 mph.

Wind gusts up to 50 mph will be possible with these storms.

Locations impacted include...
Forest, Newton, Lawrence, Raleigh, Homewood, Paulding, Rose Hill,
Turnerville, Roberts, Pineville, White Oak, Garlandville, Burns,
Hickory, Chunky, lake, Louin, Montrose and Sylvarena.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may lead
to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

High winds can bring down trees and large limbs resulting in serious
injury or property damage. Exercise extreme caution when outdoors
during such strong winds... and be especially aware of older trees.
