Areal Flood Warning

Statement as of 10:17 PM EDT on April 26, 2018

Expires 6:00 AM EDT on April 27, 2018

... A Flood Warning for rain and snowmelt remains in effect until 600
am EDT Friday for northwestern Washington... northeastern
Piscataquis... Aroostook and northeastern Penobscot counties...

There have been numerous reports of flooded roads in Caribou,
Presque Isle, Fort Fairfield, Mapleton, Chapman, Castle Hill,
Sinclair, Van Buren, Grand Isle, and Saint Agatha this evening.

The combination of the recent rainfall and continued snowmelt will
likely lead to additional areas of flooding tonight, mainly on
roads. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to
recognize the dangers of flooding.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Presque Isle, Caribou, Houlton, Millinocket, Fort Kent, Madawaska,
Fort Fairfield, Limestone, Van Buren, Patten, Eagle Lake, Danforth,
Mount Katahdin, Portage, Deboullie Mountain, Mapleton, East
Millinocket, Washburn, Mars Hill and Medway.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate Route.
