Special Statement

Statement as of 10:36 PM EST on January 24, 2015

Precipitation will begin to move into northwestern and
north-central Illinois during the predawn hours and continue to
spread across the region through the day Sunday.

The latest guidance and upstream trends suggest that the system
responsible for the anticipated snow and wintry mix of
precipitation types is trending a little farther south... so more
of the region will see all snow and the wintry mix of snow... rain
and sleet should be confined to locations generally south of a
line from Pontiac... Illinois to Rensselaer... Indiana. Also... total
snowfall amounts should be a little lighter than previously
anticipated with up to 1 to 3 inches south of the Illinois and
Kankakee rivers... dropping off to a dusting to a few tenths of an
inch toward the Wisconsin border.

Northeast winds with gusts up to 30 mph are expected to develop
through the day Sunday. This may result in areas of blowing snow
causing reduced visibility... mainly in open areas north of I-80.
South of I-80... the character of the snow will be wetter and
heavier... limiting the potential for blowing snow.

Travel may become hazardous... especially from daybreak through
Sunday afternoon.

315 PM CST Sat Jan 24 2015 /415 PM EST Sat Jan 24 2015/

Precipitation will overspread the region tonight and continue
through the day Sunday... bringing a wintry mix to portions of the
region and accumulating snowfall. Precipitation will begin as
primarily snow north of I-80 tonight... but a wintry mix of
snow... sleet... and rain is expected to the south. Precipitation
will change over to snow south of I-80 early to mid afternoon
Sunday. Snowfall totals are generally expected to fall in the 1 to
3 inch range northwest of a Streator to Waukegan line... and 2 to 4
inch range to the southeast.

Northeast winds with gusts in the 30 to 35 range are expected to
develop through the day Sunday. This may result in areas of
blowing and drifting snow with reduced visibility... mainly in
open areas north of I-80. South of I-80... wetter than average snow
may limit the amount of blowing snow to some degree.

Travel may become hazardous... especially from daybreak through
midday Sunday.
