Winter Storm Warning

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 5 PM MST
Saturday...

* impacts... moderate to heavy snowfall will result in slick
roadways and reduced visibility.

* Timing... widespread snow continuing through Saturday.
Occasional breaks in the snow will be possible.

* Snow accumulations... additional 10 to 20 inches through
Saturday above 6000 ft with 4 to 10 inches in the lower
valleys.

* Locations... St. Anthony... Ashton... Island Park... Driggs...
Victor... Henry... Soda Springs... Downey... Lava Hot Springs...
Montpelier

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather
conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow
are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an
emergency. If you must travel... keep an extra flashlight... food
and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.





Avalanche Warning

Statement as of 6:42 AM MST on December 09, 2016

The following message is transmitted at the request of the Forest
service Utah avalanche center.

The Forest service Utah avalanche center in Salt Lake City has
issued a backcountry avalanche warning.

* Timing... in effect from 6 am MST this morning until 6 am MST
tomorrow.

* Affected area... the Wasatch mountains in southeast Idaho.

* Avalanche danger... the avalanche danger for the warning area
will rise to high tonight and remain elevated through the
weekend.

* Reason/impacts... dense heavy snow combined with strong winds
will create widespread areas of unstable snow at the upper and
mid elevations. Both human triggered and natural avalanches are
certain. Stay off of and out from under slopes steeper than 30
degrees.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Backcountry travelers should stay off of... and out from
underneath... slopes steeper than 30 degrees.

Avalanches may run long distances and can run into mature
forests. Choose conservative terrain.

more detailed information.

Similar avalanche danger may exist at locations outside the
coverage area of this or any avalanche center.
