Areal Flood Warning
Statement as of 4:45 AM CDT on May 20, 2013
Expires 9:00 AM EDT on May 20, 2013
... Flood Warning remains in effect for Mower... northern Floyd and
Mitchell counties until 800 am CDT...
At 440 am CDT... emergency management and law enforcement reported
that flooding continues across much of Mitchell County... as well as
portions of Mower and Floyd counties. Water has been slowly receding
now that the rain has ended but many roads remain closed.
Additionally... some roads that were flooded now have debris on them.
Thus... travel will remain hazardous to impossible through the early
morning hours.
Along with the areal flooding taking place... river levels have also
been on the rise... prompting the need for river flood warnings. If
you live near a river or stream... be prepared to act quickly.
Some locations that either have or may have experienced flooding
include...
Osage... Adams... Floyd... Grand Meadow... Le Roy... Lyle... Nora
Springs... Riceville... Rockford... Rose Creek... Rudd... St. Ansgar and
Stacyville.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. If flooding is observed... act quickly. Do not
enter the water. Turn around and move up to higher ground. Do not
stay in areas subject to flooding when water begins rising.
Flooding is occurring. It is important to know where you are
relative to streams... rivers... or creeks which can become killers in
heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks.

including the following areas... in north central Iowa...
