Flash Flood Warning

Statement as of 12:22 AM EDT on May 21, 2013

Expires 3:30 AM EDT on May 21, 2013

... A Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 330 am EDT for east
central Miami-Dade County...

At 1209 am EDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar continued to
indicate a thunderstorm producing flash flooding over the fiu main Campus
area. Since 10 PM EDT this evening... 5.55 inches has fallen at the NWS
Miami office from the nearly stationary storm.

Locations in the warning include but are not limited to Sweetwater
and fiu main Campus

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Additional rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are possible during the next
couple of hours with the nearly stationary storm.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. If flash flooding is observed act quickly. Move
up to higher ground to escape flood waters. Do not stay in areas
subject to flooding when water begins rising.

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring.
If you are in the warning area move to higher ground immediately.
Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate
precautions to protect life and property. Do not attempt to cross
swiftly flowing waters or waters of unknown depth by foot or by
automobile.

To report flooding... have the nearest law enforcement agency relay
your report to the National Weather Service forecast office in Miami.
