Winter Storm Warning

Statement as of 5:30 AM PST on February 19, 2017

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 10 PM this evening
to 4 am PST Tuesday above 7000 feet...

* timing: periods of light snow this afternoon will increase this
evening, with heavy snow pushing into the region late tonight
and continuing through early Tuesday morning.

* Snow accumulations: above 8000 feet... 18 to 36 inches with
locally up to 4 feet along the Sierra crest. Between 7000 and
8000 feet... 8 to 20 inches. Below 7000 feet... up to 8 inches
with less than 4 inches below 6500 feet.

* Winds: south to southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 55
mph. Sierra ridge gusts over 100 mph.

* Snow levels: near 7000 feet... rising to between 7500 and 8000
feet on Monday.

* Impacts: heavy snow will create dangerous conditions, with
travel being severely impacted over the Sierra passes.
Whiteout conditions are likely over the passes and in the
backcountry.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Avoid travel if possible tonight through Monday night, you could
be stuck in your vehicle for many hours. If you must travel,
prepare for long delays and carry an emergency kit with extra
food, water and clothing. If you stay home, have a backup plan in
case of power outages.





Areal Flood Watch

... Flood Watch remains in effect from late tonight through
Tuesday morning...

The Flood Watch continues for

* a portion of east central California, including the following
area, Mono County.

* From late tonight through Tuesday morning

* a moderate to strong atmospheric river will bring heavy rain
with high snow levels late Sunday night through Tuesday
morning. Moderate to heavy rain and snow melt will contribute
to increasing flows on rivers and streams with an enhanced
flood potential late Sunday night into Tuesday morning.

* The highest risk of flooding is along creeks, streams, and
poor drainage areas. The Walker River will see appreciable
rises, but at this time is expected to remain below flood
stage.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Small creeks and streams are the most susceptible to flooding.
Excessive rainfall may also generate rock and mud slides in steep
terrain. Persons living along small creeks and streams should
monitor the latest weather information at weather.Gov/Reno and be
prepared to take action should flooding occur.
