Areal Flood Warning, Flash Flood Warning

The National Weather Service in Tucson has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
southwestern Cochise County in Southeast Arizona...

* until 415 PM MST Thursday

* at 1014 PM MST moderate to heavy rain continued over southwest and
southern Cochise County. Widespread rainfall amounts between 2 and
4 inches have occured over the past 24 to 36 hours. Hardest hit
areas include locations in and around the San Pedro river as well
as drainages that feed into the San Pedro river. The gauge at
Palominas is currently forecast to exceed flood stage in the early
morning hours.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported.
Stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected.
However... all interested parties should take necessary precautions
immediately.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of areas
near rivers and washes as well as some areas draining into them. In
addition... some roads and other low lying areas will experience
flooding.

The National Weather Service in Tucson has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
south central Santa Cruz County in Southeast Arizona...
this includes the city of Nogales...

* until midnight MST

* at 900 PM MST... National Weather Service radar continues to
indicate heavy rainfall in the Nogales area. Of particular
concern is the Nogales wash coming out of its banks in the
city of Nogales.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. If flash flooding is observed act quickly. Move
up to higher ground to escape flood waters. Do not stay in areas
subject to flooding when water begins rising.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely.

* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
southwestern Cochise County in Southeast Arizona...
this includes the city of Sierra Vista...
southeastern Pima County in Southeast Arizona...
eastern Santa Cruz County in Southeast Arizona...

* until 1230 am MST

* at 935 PM MST... National Weather Service radar continued to
indicate moderate to heavy rainfall across eastern Santa Cruz...
far southeast Pima... and southwestern Cochise counties. Radar
rainfall amounts between one-third and one-half inch per hour
were noted in this area... with 3 hour rainfall totals of
between one and two inches. This rainfall is occurring on soil
that has already been saturated from earlier rainfall. Movement
of the showers is to the north-northeast at 5 to 10 mph.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. Move to higher ground.

A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated or ponding
of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through Thursday
afternoon...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* a portion of Southeast Arizona... including the following
areas... Baboquivari Mountains... Catalina and Rincon
Mountains... Chiricahua Mountains... Dragoon and mule and
huachuca and Santa Rita Mountains... eastern Cochise County
below 5000 feet... galiuro and Pinaleno Mountains... upper Gila
River valley... upper San Pedro River Valley... upper Santa Cruz
River Valley/Altar Valley and White Mountains of Graham and
Greenlee counties.

* Through Thursday afternoon

* numerous showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue to
move across locales east and south of Tucson into Thursday.
Rainfall amounts will vary widely... but the heaviest storm total
rainfall amounts through late Thursday will likely range from 3
to 5 inches... with localized amounts of 5 to near 8 inches...
especially across some of the higher mountain peaks.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions are becoming favorable
for widespread flash flooding to develop. Monitor forecasts
closely and be ready to take quick action if flash flood warnings
are issued.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize
the dangers of flash floods. If flash flooding is observed... act
quickly. Turn around and take another Route.

stations... or your cable television provider for updates on this
flash flood threat.
