The Flood Warning continues for
the Mississippi River at Memphis
* from Thursday March 01 until Wednesday March 14.
* At 08 PM Saturday the stage was 28.1 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Maximum forecast stage of 36.6 feet on Monday March 05.
* Flood stage is 34.0 feet.
* Forecast to rise above flood stage by Thursday March 01 and
continue to rise to near 36.5 feet by Monday March 05.The river
will fall below flood stage by Wednesday March 14.
* At 37.0 feet... in Arkansas, the grain terminal and other businesses
by it south of West Memphis are being covered by water. At Memphis,
the fuel facility south of the river gage is flooding.

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of east Arkansas, north Mississippi, southeast
Missouri, and west Tennessee, including the following areas,
in east Arkansas, Clay, Craighead, Crittenden, cross, Greene,
Lawrence, Lee, Mississippi, Phillips, Poinsett, Randolph, and
St. Francis. In north Mississippi, Alcorn, Benton, Coahoma,
DeSoto, Marshall, Panola, Quitman, Tate, Tippah, and Tunica.
In southeast Missouri, Dunklin and Pemiscot. In west
Tennessee, Benton, Carroll, Chester, Crockett, Decatur, Dyer,
Fayette, Gibson, Hardeman, Hardin, Haywood, Henderson, Henry,
Lake, Lauderdale, Madison, McNairy, Obion, Shelby, Tipton, and
Weakley.

* Until 6 am CST Sunday

* additional rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are possible
through early Sunday morning, with highest amounts expected
north of Interstate 40.


* Runoff from heavy rainfall may result in rapid rises in river,
stream, and creek levels. Widespread rural lowland flooding is
possible and poor drainage urban areas may experience street
flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.

... NWS damage survey plan of action for Sunday...

Event date 02/24/18

The National Weather Service in Memphis is planning on
investigating numerous reports of damage across northeast
Arkansas, the Missouri bootheel, and northwest Tennessee beginning
Sunday 2/25/2018. We suspect some of this damage was caused by
tornadoes. We plan on utilizing multiple survey crews. However,
due to the expansive area of damage, it may still take two days or
longer to complete the surveys and determine the strength of any
potential tornadoes.

Specifically, our areas of focus include:

Clay County, AR and Dunklin County, MO between Knobel and Malden.
Mississippi County, AR between Keiser and Osceola.
Obion County, TN approximately 3 miles northeast of Union City.
Obion County, TN between Reelfoot Lake and Union City.
Weakley County, TN near Martin.
Gibson County, TN near Trenton.
Madison County, TN near Gibson.
Madison County, TN approximately 5 miles northeast of Jackson.
Henry County, TN near Paris.
