Areal Flood Advisory

The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has issued a

* Flood Advisory for...
the lower Koyukuk and middle Yukon valleys.

* Until 1115 PM akdt Sunday

* between 1 and 3 inches of rain has fallen over the area through
Saturday evening. Up to an additional half inch is expected
through Sunday with the heaviest amounts south and east of the
Yukon river.

* The recent heavy rainfall will cause rapid rises in small
streams... especially in hilly terrain. Localized flooding in low
lying areas is also possible. The major rivers... including the
Koyukuk and Yukon are expected to remain below flood stage.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Residents and people recreating on rivers should closely monitor
water levels for rapid changes. Do not attempt to travel across
flooded roads or trails.

To report flooding... contact your local Village official or public
safety officer who can relay the report to the National Weather
Service.

A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated ... or
ponding of water is occurring or is imminent.

The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has extended the

* Flood Advisory for...
the southern Seward Peninsula and Nulato Hills

* until noon akdt Sunday

* rain has tapered off over the northern Seward Peninsula this
morning and over the Nulato Hills this afternoon. Between 1 and 2
inches of rain fell from Friday through today across this area.
Little to no additional rainfall is expected.

Small streams will remain high tonight with minor flooding
   possible. Larger rivers in the area... including the niukluk...
Koyuk... Shaktoolik and Unalakleet rivers will rise to near bankfull
   tonight. Minor flooding of low lying areas near these rivers is
   possible through Sunday morning as well.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated... or
ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
Do not attempt to travel across flooded roads. Find alternate routes.
It takes only a few inches of swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles
away.

Bettles broke the daily rainfall record with 0.60 inches of rain.
The previous record rainfall was 0.37 inches set in 1961 and tied
in 1999.
